Our standards of practice establish the minimum requirements, scope, and ethical duties for conducting a home inspection in Massachusetts. They define the inspector’s responsibility to perform a non-invasive, visual assessment of accessible systems and components, such as structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical elements, and to provide clients with a written report detailing observed defects along with any safety issues at the time of inspection. Standards of practice help ensure consistency, quality, and consumer protection, setting expectations for what the inspection covers and clarifying its limitations as a snapshot of current conditions rather than a prediction of future performance.
